Congratulations on your new puppy! I’m so glad to have you join our Herzog Puppy Family!

Here’s what to do next:

DOWNLOAD - The Go Home Day Puppy Checklist if you need a new copy. Otherwise you should have a copy in your Go Home Packet. DOWNLOAD

SIGN UP FOR TRUPANION - Check your Go Home Packet for the instructions on signing up. I strongly suggest using it for the first year since pups do all kinds of crazy things. We had someone who brought a pup home, it ate a sock and had to have a $4000 surgery. Trupanion covered it. They require you to sign up within 24 hours of bringing your pup home otherwise it's void so don’t delay.

PUT YOUR PUP’S MICROCHIP IN YOUR NAME - Here’s the link https://animal-id.net/en/signup

THE FIRST 3 DAYS - The first 3 days are an important time for your pup to bond with you. Your pup should feel safe and introductions should be kept to a minimum. I know, you’re eager to have your pup meet people and start socializing, but taking your time in the beginning will help build trust with your pup.

WATCH FOR SIGNS OF STRESS - Believe it or not, yawning isn’t a sign that a pup’s tired. It means they’re stressed. So does lip smacking, ears pinned back or pulling away when you try to go cheek to cheek. If your pup is stressed immediately take him or her out of the situation and run back and forth with him or her. You don’t need to go far, just 10 steps in one direction and 10 steps back. This helps your pup shake off whatever was causing stress and regroup.

JOIN THE HERZOG PUPPY FAMILY PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP - This is such a great way to see how littermates have turned out and share updates, ask questions and more. We’d love to have you join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/673618453379865/?ref=share_group_link&exp=93fa

JOIN THE HERZOG PUPPY FAMILY WEB PAGE - If you send me an update or leave a reviews on Yelp, Facebook and Google I’ll add you to our Herzog Puppy Family web page. I’ll also need a good picture of you with your pup. I LOVE seeing the Herzog Puppy Family web page. Sometimes there are really rough days as a breeder and I go to that page when I really need to smile. Here’s the page https://www.herzoggsd.com/past-puppies and here’s where you can leave reviews. They are SO APPRECIATED - Facebook - Google - Yelp

SOFT STOOL OR DIARRHEA - Here's some information on what to look for when you bring your pup home as far as loose stool goes. On the day you bring your pup home, it's normal for an upset tummy in the first 24 hours. This can mean vomiting or diarrhea. Try not to worry. Keep pup calm, no new treats for the first few days. Don’t change his or her food. Here’s a short video on normal stool and when it’s time to worry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JklGCx1CV3E

VET APPOINTMENT - Don’t forget to see a vet within 72 hours of Go Home Day. If you can’t make it in that soon please let me know so I can make a note on your Health Guarantee so it isn’t nullified. The goal is to see your vet as soon as possible to be sure your vet and our vet are on the same page as far as your pup’s health is concerned.
