Guardian Homes

Because we want our breeding dogs to live their best life possible, we’re always on the lookout for excellent Guardian Homes.

This arrangement isn’t for everyone, but those who participate in this program love the experience because they’re able to participate in the world of breeding without actually having to invest time, money, worry about clean up, finding homes for the pups or aftercare.

Here’s how it works — keep in mind that some details vary based on the specific arrangement:

  • A suitable adult dog or puppy of breeding quality is chosen for the Guardian Home based on the best fit for that home. This will be the pup’s forever home so we want to be sure it’s a great fit for everyone. There’s no cost to the Guardian Home for the purchase price of the doggo.

  • There is a contract in place so everything is outlined in advance.

  • Between the age 12-24 months we begin health testing to see if the Guardian Dog is a good fit for our breeding program. If they pass their health screenings, arrangements are made for their first pairing. * Breedings are based on multiple factors, not just the health of the parents including demand for pups, having a suitable match, timing of heat cycles, etc.

  • Should the dog not pass our breeding standards no breeding will be done and he or she continues life as usual. Other reasons a Guardian Dog may not be bred include demand for pups, not having a suitable match, timing of heat cycles, etc.

  • We’re responsible for all expenses associated with breeding. The Guardian Home is responsible for feeding, everyday expenses and normal veterinary care that doesn’t pertain to breeding just as if they owned the doggo outright.

  • Momma dog stays with us for breeding then goes back to her Guardian Home to be pampered during her pregnancy. We’ll pick her up to take her to her prenatal vet visits as needed. About a week before she gives birth she comes to stay with us until her pups are weaned at 8 weeks old.

  • If the Guardian Dog is a male, he’ll be with us one or more times a year for up to a week at a time.

  • We handle all litter care, screening potential homes and the aftercare for those homes. We offer each of our puppy homes training support and health guarantees among other things. The Guardian Home needs to worry about none of this. Their only job is to provide a loving home for their Guardian Dog.

  • The Guardian Home receives a fee per living pup that exhibits no sign of congenital defect by the time the pup reaches 8 weeks old if they have the mother of the litter, and a flat fee if they have the father of the litter.

  • Momma dogs can have up to 4 litters keeping her health in mind as our primary concern. If a female is unable to breed or has had her litters we step out of the picture unless the Guardian Home needs our assistance in any way. Papa dogs can breed longer than females and retire at a later age as long as their health allows.

  • Health and happiness of our Guardian Dogs is the primary concern. All decisions made pertaining to breeding will have those things in mind first and foremost.

REQUIREMENTS

Guardian Homes Must:

- Live within 2 hours of Crystal Lake, IL

- Be flexible due to the nature of heat cycle timing

- Able to provide a loving and stable home

FEE PAYMENTS

Fees are determined by each individual arrangement. Typically, Guardian Homes are hands off as far as breeding and caring for pups is concerned so they receive a small fee per litter. A Guardian Home that plays a bigger role such as handling certain breeding expenses, caring for pups, or having the parent dog participate in dog shows would receive a larger fee.
