Create Your Puppy Profile

Start by creating a specialized profile for your puppy. This can be updated as your pup grows so if you don’t have certain information right now, that’s ok! As you update your pup’s profile, Pawtree will customize recommendations to suit the specific needs of your puppy.

 FOOD & SUPPLEMENTS

Over the years I’ve researched all the major food brands in search of the perfect food. I finally landed on Pawtree and here are the reasons why:

  • Their products are far superior to many major name brands I found during my research. Read more about my product comparisons HERE.

  • They offer a whole line of supplements from salmon oil, to allergy meds, probiotics and toys

  • I love that the products are shipped straight to my door and I can select the frequency

  • They give points to receive discounted or even free food

  • My customer sales are trackable which allows me to extend my Health Guarantee confidently because it serves as proof the pup was properly nourished (see more about the Health Guarantee Extension below)

9 Week COmmitment For A Smooth Transition

Your pup will be eating Pawtree until Go Home Day. This is a stressful day for a pup and we don’t want to add further stress by changing food right away so I ask that everyone give the food a 9 week commitment. This is going to help minimize stomach upset, diarrhea, and even prevent reactivation of dormant parasites. Learn more about what what your puppy’s poo should look like and how to prevent reactivation of dormant parasites HERE.

Switching Foods Without Stomach Upset

If you choose to switch your pup’s food, which would preferably be after you’ve fed Pawtree for the 9 week commitment, the best method of switching to avoid stomach upset is in 3’s which looks like this:

  • 3 days of 25% new food

  • 3 days of 50% new food

  • 3 days of 75% new food

  • On the 10th day you start 100% new food

Extended Health Guarantee

Our Health Guarantee covers the first 2 years of your pup’s life, but I extend the guarantee up to 5 years if your pup is on Pawtree the whole time. This is because Pawtree is trackable on my end so there are no disputes down the line whether or not your pup was receiving the proper nutrition. This means we can rule out malnourishment as a cause of any health issue that may arise.

Dangers of Overfeeding

Overfeeding your pup can cause several issues including soft and/or loose stool, shortened life span, cancer and higher risk of hip dysplasia. I often see people worry their pup isn’t eating enough or doesn’t like their food especially when they go through their lean stage from 6-18 months. They try to entice their pup to eat more by changing or adding to foods. This promotes finicky eating and over eating. Keep in mind your pup will eat when he or she is hungry. Sometimes they choose to miss meals and they often won’t finish full bowls. I realize it can be worrisome so please reach out to me if you have questions.

How To Tell If Your Pup Is a Healthy Weight

Every pup is different. They grow at different rates based on breed, parental genetics, the type of food they’re on, how much they eat and the amount of exercise they get. There’s no set measurement of food that can fit all dogs which is why the Body Mass Indicator (BMI) is the most accurate way of telling if your pup is at a healthy weight. The BMI chart and instructions are attached below.

Talking To Your Vet

There are many brands of food out there and veterinarians usually prefer to recommend the most popular foods because they have widely published studies. They can’t be familiar with every brand of food out there and because Pawtree is a smaller company the likelihood is high that your vet hasn’t heard much about them. Here is a letter you can give your vet so they can have a better understanding of the food your pup is eating.
